2 months

Colton is 2 months old! Oh my! These two months have been amazing. We're definitely falling nicely into the role of "family of 4." Without sitting down and discussing things, Jordan and I have just fallen into our new roles. The baby needs to eat? Jordan takes care of dinner. I'm giving Colton a bath? Jordan grabs Hampton and gets him in the tub. I hop in the shower before getting in bed? Jordan makes sure that there are diapers and wipes next to the bed for the middle-of-the-night change. It works.

Even though I've done this before, I'm in shock at how much a baby changes in the first 2 months! Colton is so alert, loves to check out everything going on around him, and unlike his big brother, is happy to chill out in his swing or on the activity mat for a little while. He has the sweetest little smile and when you tickle his stomach he smiles and pulls his legs and arms in to grab your hand! Sleep (knock on wood) is wonderful. He takes great naps and wakes up once during the night to eat and goes right back to sleep. The only hiccup is that he is in this stage where he "cluster feeds" (eats off and on for a few hours) every night before bed. He can be a bit fussy during this time, and I can't quite figure it out. Not sure if he's sleepy and fighting it, hungry, has a tummy ache, or what. But I'm sure it will pass soon, so for now, I camp out in my bed and just feed and bounce and love on him until he goes to sleep for good.

At Colton's 2 month well visit, we learned that he had an ear infection. Hampton was kind enough to share his cold with Jordan and Colton, but I was surprised to hear this! Hampton had no ear infections through his first year (and only 1 ever), so it makes me nervous that this little guy has one already. I'm hoping this isn't a sign of bad things to come... Since he had an ear infection and would have to come back in 2 weeks for a recheck, we got to postpone the dreaded shots. I'm not looking forward to that! :(
Although Colton seems so teeny tiny to me, he's a little chunkster! He weighed in at 12 lbs, 9 oz and was 22 inches. Yay for my big boy!!

Labor Day Beach trip

I've been a total blog slacker. I really wish it wasn't so, but I don't pull my computer out much during the day (it's already missing the "V" key thanks to Hampton always wanting to beat on it!). Once I'm in bed at night, or nursing Colton before he goes to bed, the last thing I think about is how I need to write down this or that before I forget and then I'm too lazy to pull out the computer! Looking back, this same thing happened my first few months with Hampton, so I'm sure I'll get back in the swing of things soon enough. Excited? You should be!

Over Labor Day weekend, we were able to head to Hilton Head for the long weekend. Oh boy, is going to the beach with a toddler and a newborn an adventure and a half! Thankfully, my parents were there to step in when needed. Hampton slept in the pnp in their room, so Jordan and I were able to get a few extra minutes of sleep each morning before Colton decided it was time for everyone to be up. That in itself was so nice! We spent Saturday down at the beach most of the day but not in the ocean. Hampton is terrified still. It was so pitiful, and after much begging and coercing, we finally gave up on the idea of him getting in-or anywhere close-to the water. I hope this changes next year! We had a beachfront condo with a pool right out the back door, so he did get a lot of swim time in, which made him happy. He is fearless when it comes to the pool! Colton (let's not forget about him) napped down at the beach for hours, slept great at night, and just went with the flow. He's such a good baby! Sunday was a little rainy, but we didn't let that stop us from having fun. Hampton and Jordan played in the rain, found a bunny, and ate boiled peanuts out on the patio w/ G-dad. The afternoon was pretty windy, so we had to keep Colton inside--which meant that we traded off being down at the beach. That part of vacationing with little ones isn't so fun, but it is better than not getting away at all! On the way home, we hit the outlets. Hampton racked up on some fall/winter clothes. He was in desperate need b/c he was going to have to go naked once the weather cooled down!

Just take the picture, mom.
Chillin'
Diggin'
I'll play in the sand!
I also convinced Jordan to humor me and pose for a few pictures. Too bad Colton wasn't as easily swayed. He wasn't so pleased with the idea, but I think we got a few.

Helping his daddy fly the kite
Hampton flying the kite!

Can't wait to hit the beach next summer when both boys can play with each other!
