Kind of Potty Training

Who is this kid?? He looks so grown up and cool!
Sigh. The monkey is growing up. That comes with many fun things...and a few not so fun things. Enter potty training here. I'll be the first to admit that I'm in no rush to potty train him. Why? Because it's just easier for ME to not have to worry about it! It's completely selfish, and I obviously know he has to get out of diapers at some point!
A couple of months ago, we tried to do it cold turkey--spent a couple of days around the house, armed with plenty of M&Ms, and let him run around naked. He did really well, and was so excited. And then Monday came. And he was petrified to even walk by his little potty. M&Ms made him shriek in terror, "I no have to tee tee!" It was awful. So we put the potty away and would try again later.
A few weeks later, he started telling me when he needed to use the potty. It was only once every few days, but it was something! He has slowly started wanting to use the potty more and more. That's great! But the thought of big boy underwear excites him so much but terrifies him even more. It's an obstacle we'll have to tackle soon. In the mean time, we're letting him guide us. Sure, it will be nice to have only 1 in diapers, but I'm not going to rush him. He will not be wearing diapers his whole life; that is a fact! So, there you have it, we're kind of potty training!

10 months

It's that time. Time to start planning a birthday party!! Oh how that makes me so happy but so sad, too. I'm not sure if I'm more excited or more nervous about this little guy growing up so fast. It's fun, though. No doubt!

This month, Colton has really taken off. He's such a little copy cat. He waves, smiles, tilts his head, and does about anything that you do to him. It's adorable!
-Talking: no new words, but he does now make the distinction b/w dada and mama. He doesn't talk too much. Still more of just babbling. I catch him waving to himself and saying bye bye in the car at times, and I can't help but smile.
-Mobility: He took his first steps this month! He is practicing walking, but is still crawling to get where he needs to go. Unless there are items he can hold on to--then he cruises right along to where he wants to be.
-Teeth: 6 teeth. Looks like a few more are trying to make their way through the gums. I guess he's going to teethe in "groups." Yay :-/
-Sleep: Ugh. I don't even feel like discussing it. He was doing well. Then he got a cold (or allergies or something that has lingered on for 2+ weeks..!). This led to another ear infection. Then it went down hill from there. I'm tired!
-Eating: He'll eat pretty much anything we offer. At his 9-month well visit, we were told we could start offering soft foods. I was really excited about this b/c he seems very interested in moving on from purees. Unfortunately, the first thing I offered him, he choked on. It happened only a few days after a local little boy passed away after choking, and it scared me & Jordan so badly. I've been very, VERY hesitant with introducing foods since then. He's tried bananas, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and bread, and has done okay with each of those. I've yet to give him a real "meal" that isn't mainly purees. I will. I'm just getting there slowly.
-When you say "yay" he claps; "where's Colton?" he covers his eyes and plays peek a boo; "byebye" he waves. He also mimics blowing kisses, washing hands/putting lotion on, and will sign all done if he wants nothing else to eat.
-He loves the pool, and we can't wait to see how he reacts to the beach next month!
-He wants to be everywhere his big brother is. And if Hampton is on the ground, he crawls all over him and loves on him. Hampton (usually) returns that love. It is beyond sweet.
